What it is

Harbor is a personal notes / second-brain app aimed at people who outgrew Evernote's price and lock-in: notes, scans, PDFs, photos, handwriting, and recordings live in one library with OCR search (including handwriting) and searchable transcripts. Public launch materials emphasize native apps (Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, web, plus CLI — not an Electron shell), one-step Evernote import, full export on every plan (HTML / Markdown / ENEX), optional per-note or per-notebook zero-knowledge encryption, and bring-your-own ChatGPT/Claude (plus API / CLI / MCP) instead of a baked-in assistant you pay twice for. Pricing called out on the site is one Unlimited plan around $99/yr (or ~$8.25/mo equivalent) with a free start, a written no-increase window for three years after subscribe, then a 10%/yr cap; treat fee tables and feature lists as vendor claims until you run an import + export yourself.

Who it is for

Solo makers and knowledge workers who want a private, exportable notebook for life — especially if you still hold years of Evernote notebooks, scanned mail, or meeting recordings and want a written price promise plus a real exit path. If you need shared team workspaces, admin consoles, or an enterprise tier, Harbor's founder explicitly says it is personal-on-purpose and is not building that. If you only need ephemeral scratch notes in Apple Notes / Notion free, migrating a whole library may be overkill. Encryption is a deliberate trade-off: encrypted notes are not OCR/searchable by Harbor, so sensitive tax/medical docs can be locked while everyday notes stay fully searchable.

Why we listed it

Fresh public surface: Product Hunt featured Harbor on 2026-09-20 (~3 days before this listing; hunted.space shows #5 / Product of the Day band with ~151 upvotes), live site verified 2026-09-23. Our Productivity column was thin (only Accordio's solopreneur MCP back office) and the board is still Dev-tools heavy overall — Harbor fills the personal notes / second-brain gap with a recent ship, not a household Notion/Obsidian brand listing. Distinct from Accordio: Accordio tracks hours and drafts contracts/invoices via MCP; Harbor is the private capture + OCR + export layer you keep for decades.

Caveats

We have not completed a full Evernote migration or measured OCR accuracy on our own handwriting samples. Price-lock and read-only-on-cancel promises are marketing + account-note claims — read the current terms before you depend on them for multi-year archives. Bring-your-own AI means your OpenAI/Anthropic keys touch note content when connected; revoke access if that trust model does not fit. Early post-launch risk: sync edge cases and import fidelity for complex ENEX libraries will still move.
